Green Fleadh

Our aim is that all aspects of the Fleadh will be carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner. We are using supplies made with recycled content, respecting our beautiful Cavan landscape and treading lightly (except when we’re dancing).

Camping

Camping locations will be fully provided with Recycling Points to reduce landfill waste. Energy saving lighting will be used where possible. Water conserving fixtures will be used in cisterns, showers and taps. An environmental awareness program will be in place at the campsites where visitors will be encouraged to use the facilities and 'leave no trace'.
Please remember that the campsite is a glass free zone.

The main focus areas of the Green Fleadh organisers are:

  1. Waste Management
  2. Energy Use
  3. Water Conservation

Restaurants and pubs
General requirements for members are to separate waste into a three bin system of recycling, waste food and landfill.

Also to save energy, participating premises will consider changing any old bulb types to 'A' rated energy bulbs which will save on energy costs. Efficient hot water heating and refrigeration methods have been recommended.

Water consumption has been be reduced by using cistern Hippo Bags, sink plugs in all kitchens, directional hoses and low-flow shower heads.

This process is designed to increase efficiencies and make substantial cost savings on energy, waste and water. Properties which achieve the Green Hospitality Award Eco Label gain national and international recognition. Every Green Fleadh Member receives a framed signed copy of the Fleadh Ghlas Charter and membership stickers for display.

Electric Vehicles

Cavan is the first town outside of major urban centres to receive an on-street charging point. This charging point is located in front of the Courthouse, Cavan and was installed by the ESB and operational since early August 2010. To use this charge point, owners of electric vehicles must register on the ESB Ecars website to receive a tag.

Water
Water consumption and wastage will be minimised by using water efficient tap fittings in Hotels & Restaurants, Campsites, Public toilets & showers, Water points etc. Hotels and Restaurants and pubs in Cavan Town have been fitted with cistern water displacement measures to conserve Water and this also saves money. Campsite toileting facilities have water saving cisterns to conserve the use of water.
